Oh hey! We’re the Harpers!
Hey! My name is Marshé (mar-SHEA) and this is my husband Gabriel! We’ve been together for five years and the one thing we knew we loved the most was: food, traveling, and giving back. We actually went to college together but I was “focused on my studies” and didn’t pay him any attention, but fast forward now? He’s the love of my life and I’m glad I gave him another chance to win my heart over.
We both grew up in the DMV area (D.C., Maryland and Virginia) and took a leap of faith to move out to Virginia Beach to start our new lives and escape the city life for a more laid back, easy going lifestyle. Traveling and food has been a love language that has been a true catalyst in our relationship, and the more we traveled, the less we saw other black people in areas that could make any person of color feel a bit unwelcome.
This blog is dedicated to any reader looking for a new adventure, with a special emphasis for my black community to get out there and become comfortable with breaking the stigma of “black people don’t travel”. There is so much to see, eat, and explore, and I want you and every reader that comes across this page to fill welcomed in any spot you choose to travel too. The color of your skin should not dictate where you can and can’t travel too, and we want to be an example to push you comfortably to that destination on your travel list!
You’ll also find a very special page called the ‘757’ — the area code of the Hampton Roads area here in Virginia! I aim to highlight local spots and activities for those looking to explore the area, and for my local community to take the time to get out there themselves and have some fun at home.
I pray this blog inspires you to become more confident in traveling, trying new spots, and most importantly: opening your mind and spirit to new things!
Sincerely,
The Harpers
